Wheelsong Poetry Anthology 3

Wheelsong Books was first established in 2020 as a not-for-profit organisation. Its mission statement is twofold: To give emerging poets platforms to reach larger audiences and to help those who are in need. Since then, the company has published 30 books including four charity poetry anthologies.  These are the anthology statistics:

Absolutely Poetry Anthology 1 contains 170 poems
(a total of 743 poems by more than 250 poets representing over 80 countries across all 6 continents)

All the above books will remain on sale on Amazon and through other outlets, including Waterstones (UK) and Barnes & Noble (USA). The proceeds from Amazon sales of these four books is donated to Save the Children - a worldwide charity that supports children in crisis. To date Wheelsong Books has donated more than £1300.00 ($1650.00) to Save the Children and we intend to raise a lot more money. We are about to launch Wheelsong Poetry Anthology 3!

Poet, here's the deal.... You have been given a wonderful creative gift, which is to be able to articulate your thoughts, ideas, memories and emotions in beautiful, evocative words. Using your talent, you can give back a little to children who are in desperate, often life-threatening situations. We all want our poetry to be read and appreciated by others. Publishing your work in Wheelsong Poetry Anthology 3 will ensure you gain a new audience for your poetry, but more importantly, your poems will be raising much needed funds to support children in crisis.

To be considered for inclusion you will need to:

1) submit up to 3 of your own original poems for review, that have not previously been subject to any publishing agreement. (Plagiarised, AI generated and publisher contracted poems will not be considered)

2) email your poems in either plain text or Word format so the team are able to transfer your poetry across into the editorial review system. The email will be announced in the Call for Poems post (see below).

3) pledge that you will purchase at least one copy of the book (at author discount, which will be half the price advertised on Amazon, plus shipping) to support the project. The editors noticed that less than third of the poets published in previous anthologies actually supported the project and bought a copy once the books had been published! We think that is unfair, and we will now only publish poets who are committed to helping others. In your publishing agreement there will be a pledge for to to sign to agree to this clause. Please don't submit your poetry if you are unwilling to do this.

NB: Shorter poems are more likely to be accepted for publication than longer pieces - space will be limited in the book due to resource and production limitations.

For now, don't send any poems in. They won't be seen. More details are coming about important dates and deadlines and how to submit.

Look out for the call for poems, which will be posted on several Facebook poetry groups including Invisible Poets, Wheelsong Poetry and Pure Poetry later in August. Keep visiting this blog to find out more.

  1. Very exciting news. I totally agree with the decision about commiting to buying at least one book. Why would you not want a copy of the book you are being published in especially if its raising money for such a worthy cause. The charity will then at least be getting an initial decent amount if there are around 80 artists published. X

    1. Thanks for your affirmation of this decision Donna. We are doing this to try to weed out those who are not willing to support the project to reach children in crisis, but are only interested in furthering their own ambitions. Wheelsong Anthology 3 will be filled with poetry by those who really care about how their work can be used to improve the lives of needy kids.

  2. To gain a feel of quality and content before I submitted pieces for Wheelsong I purchased Wheelsong Anthology 1; Cobalt Skies, Nocturne, Shocks & Stares and finally Wheelsong Anthology 2.
Amazed at the quality; the tactility of all is great, appropriate cover visual, size of any/all Wheelsong books, content, collection of poetry ... something for everyone. Who would not want to purchase a (or several) of such a prestigious publication with the funds generated for such an important cause.
    Must get scribbling!

    1. Thanks for your support of the Wheelsong mission. We like to think that every book we publish is high quality in terms of both its content and its aesthetic look and feel. When you buy a Wheelsong book you are investing in a piece of art.

    1. That's great to hear. You made up for 4 published poets who didn't bother to get behind the project. Every book sold raises enough money to feed a malnourished child for a week, or to purchase two sterile maternity baby delivery kits.

  10. It is surprising so few poets purchased a book. As you know i purchased 10 to hand out to family and friends! What greater way to help the less fortunate.
I, too, am in full agreement of your clause of agreeing to purchase one book. For, the amount of effort you and your team puts in, i should think it would be a no-brainer, for all. Thank you for everything, Steve. It’s nice to see good honest people working towards such a worthy cause.

  12. Unfortunately, due to a disability and mounting medical bills, I will be unable to monetarily support this wonderful cause. However, I wish the best for this project and all the poets involved. I support you all: emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Keep your pens to the paper and your imaginations flowing!

  16. I will buy a copy whether I'm published in it or not, it will go nicely with the other two. It's perfectly reasonable to expect those that are selected to support the cause and it will mean more people will see their work, so win win.

  19. I will submit three poems for consideration for inclusion in Wheelsong Poetry Anthology 3. I will still buy a copy or copies if none of my poems are included. There are many more invisible poets now and the other poetry sites. I've got Brandon, Rafik, Matt and Imelda...their individual collections now. Missing Charlene's collection and the publications of a certain Steve Wheeler. This will be rectified soon! Thanks everyone.
